Today, Emma Shumway joins the Sabin Center as a Climate Justice Fellow. Her work focuses on the environmental justice and equity implications of developments in climate change law and policy at the national, state, and local levels.
Emma graduated from Columbia Law School in 2023, where she was a Ruth Bader Ginsburg Scholar. At the Law School, she was a Max Berger ’71 Public Interest/Public Service Fellow, Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law, and a member of the Environmental Law Moot team. Emma was a summer legal intern for the Environmental Defense Fund and the Earthjustice Northeast Office, as well as an extern with EPA Region 2 and the New York City Department Environmental Division. Prior to law school, Emma was an organizer for Environment America. She received her B.A. from Middlebury College in 2018.
